US: A LOOK AT RAIL EUROPE GROUP
Article Abstract:
The American company Rail Europe Group is a subsidiary of the SNCF and the Swiss federal railroad, and it markets products for private individuals and groups from North America (70% of the clients are travel agencies). Its products include the Eurailpass, which makes it possible to travel on 17 European rail networks. The group serves more than 1mn North American travellers per year, and employs 300 people. For the past few years, the group also offers complementary products in the air travel, hotels, and car rental domains. Reservations can be made in four reservation centres in 500 agencies equipped with Euronet terminals (a group reservation system) and on the Internet. The group is counting on the SNCF's expertise and know-how in terms of TGV high speed train travel in France and Europe, and on its technological advance in electronic commerce.
