U.S. and EU beef up for next trade tiff

The US and the European Union (EU) are already preparing for their next trade dispute which could start as soon as May 1999. Both sides have already begun their banana trade war. Beef is expected to be the next area of dispute between the US and the EU. Many economists are wondering to what lengths will both entities fight over beef, which is considered to be source of pride for both the US and the EU.

Italy restricts imports of beef from France
Article Abstract:
Italy announced that it is restricting imports of French beef because of panic over so-called mad-cow disease. The Italian government placed a ban on all French cattle over the age of 18 months, as well as banning imports of T-bone steaks and other cuts of beef on the bone. Also, France, the UK, and the European Commission are facing a suit over the disease by two French victims of the human form.
