US banks top the class of '94

US investment banks JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers were the top three advisers on cross-border merger and acquisition deals going into and out of Spain in 1994. Domestic banks Banco Central Hispano and Santander Investment were in fourth and fifth place, with UK concern Ernst and Young in sixth place. Goldman Sachs completed five international mandates, more than any other adviser, but lagged behind in value terms.

Private deals prove decisive
Article Abstract:
S G Warburg continued to lead the UK public and private financial adviser league table in 1994. Warburg handled 36 public and private deals valued at a total of 4.08 billion pounds sterling. Ten of Warburg's deals were for the public sector, and its private deals included work for Sun Life Assurance of Canada and Mortgage Trust. Schroders rose to second place from fourth with total deals of 3,815 pounds.

Banks benefit from a sharp turnaround
Article Abstract:
S G Warburg rose to take pole position of the league tables for financial advisers on UK public takeovers in terms of value of transactions. Warburg handled a total of 10 deals, representing a value of 3, 346 pounds sterling, however, N M Rothschild handled 11 deals, valued at only 1,005 pounds. Warburg's deals include work for Enterprise Oil, Northern Electric, and Portals.
