U.S. court ruling on Oracle bid complicates EU antitrust case
Article Abstract:
The European Commission's case against Oracle Corp.'s acquisition of PeopleSoft Inc. is based largely on the same arguments as those made by the U.S. Department of Justice in its case against the merger of the two software companies in the United States. Therefore, U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker's ruling that Oracle's hostile takeover bid would not hurt competition in the software market, has left European Union Competition Commissioner Mario Monti with some tough decisions to make regarding the case in Europe.
