US weighs up SBL alternatives
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin Astronautics and TRW have each landed $10 million worth of contracts from the US Air Force's Space and Missile Systems Center to conduct six-month concept-definition studies of the Space Based Laser Readiness Demonstration (SBLRD). The two companies will be tasked to explore different development options and to prepare schedules that classify several possible launch dates for a space-based experiment. Following the tests, the US Air Force and Ballistic Missile Defense Organization will decide on the proper methods to meet Congressional requirements for the extension of the project.
