Article Abstract:
The CDMA (code division multiple access) standard for mobile telephone communications is beginning to take more market share from the leading GSM standard. Analysts predict that CDMA could increase its market share to 20-50%, or even more, by 2002. This may mean that South Korean firms reap the dividends of a government decision in the early 1990s to adopt CDMA as its national standard. South Korea took this decision in the hope that the new technology would gain acceptance and Korean manufacturers would have the technological advantage to become world leaders.

What's the scoop?
Article Abstract:
There was very strong media interest in the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from the UK to China. In the period immediately leading up to the handover, there were few really significant developments, so journalists were reduced to seeking human interest stories. Developments in Hong Kong have taken place very gradually, and this has presented further challenges for journalists. US journalists have been particularly interested in pro-democracy campaigner Martin Lee, while UK journalists have focused on stories which signify the end of the British empire.

The brew master
Article Abstract:
US-born psychologist David Haines has successfully launched Hong Kong's first microbrewery in an attempt to serve changing beer tastes among more affluent Asians. Haines, 29, developed the idea in 18 months, lining up financing via a fortuitous encounter with a US brewing executive who is now the chairman of the brewery, South China Brewing Co. It operates in 4000 sq ft of a warehouse and can produce 5200 barrels of Crookewd Island Ale annually, but Haines has grander plans: he wants to open 20 microbreweries throughout Asia by 2000.
