Unigate's pretax profit rose slightly in 1st half
Article Abstract:
Unigate PLC of the UK has exceeded projections in posting a slight increase in pretax profit to $112.3 million for the first six months of 1998. The food company's underlying profit before tax amounted to 68.1 million pounds sterling, excluding exceptional items and Year 2000 costs. Unigate's headline figure, from 67.4 million pounds sterling in the same period in 1997, is above the market's projection of 62 million to 64 million pounds sterling.. Unigate CEO Sir Ross Buckland said that the firm's rate of growth for the rest of 1998 could be hampered by the increasing pressure on the UK economy.
