Using hazardous materials: legal responsibilities for health and safety in construction mean designers have a need to obtain information on toxic products
Article Abstract:
Manufacturers must produce safe use and handling data sheets for their products which should contain the hazardous contents, possible effects, ways of alleviating contamination, advice on the safe use, storage and disposal. Such health and safety data sheets are not routinely sent to architects and are not included in standard catalogues intended for designers. The EU eco-labelling scheme may be an alternative route to solving the environmental information gap.
