VST INDS POSTS 14% RISE IN TURNOVER, NET AT Rs3.9 CR

VST Industries (VSTI) posted a net profit of Rs3.91 crore in the first half of 1998-99. Its gross turnover has increased by 14 percent to Rs350.80 crore (Rs307.55 crore in the first half of 1997-98). Its gross profit before interest, depreciation and tax is estimated at Rs17.47 crore (loss of Rs1.36 crore). It has incurred interest charges of Rs10.63 crore. Provision for depreciation is estimated at 2.75 crore and provision for tax at Rs0.18 crore. VSTI markets the Charminar brand of cigarettes. (gs)

ALL GPI BRANDS TO COST MORE EXCEPT FOUR SQUARE
Article Abstract:
Godfrey Phillips India (GPI) is to increase the prices of all its cigarette brands except that of Four Square Kings and Four Square special brands. This follows the recent hike in excise duty on cigarettes. The price of the Select brand is being increased to Rs9 from Rs7.40 for a 10 stick pack while that of Cavander Filter is being hiked to Rs9 from Rs8 per pack. The Four Square Premium and the Red & White brands will increase to Rs9.90 from Rs9.40 per pack of ten sticks. (khr)

FLOOR PRICE FOR STEEL IMPORTS LIKELY TO GO DOWN BY 15-20%
Article Abstract:
The Government of India is considering reducing the floor price for steel imports by about 15 to 20 percent. This is to match the international price trend. Data furnished by the user industry has indicated that global prices of steel have dropped to much lower levels when compared to the floor price fixed by the government. The average floor price fixed by the government is $300 per tonne. (gs)(vr)
