Venture capital - strength in numbers
Article Abstract:
There are now eight venture capital businesses in Birmingham, England, including Lloyds Development Capital, Royal Bank Development Capital and Barclays Ventures. However, venture capital firms based in London, England, still take some private equity business from the region. A considerable number of high street banks have recently established specialized financing units in Birmingham, believing that there are many benefits to be gained from having specialized debt teams based locally. Some observers believe that there was a tightening in the availability of senior debt funding in the fourth quarter of 1998.

The city of Manchester, England, has a considerable number of venture capital houses looking to invest in effectively managed companies.
