Movie tourism has become important in the US mid-west. The Great Plains lack mountains and oceans, but offer an historical heritage. Winterset, Fort Hays and Dodge City are among locations that have attracted movie tourists. Liberal, Kansas, has set up a museum for the 'Wizard of Oz', while Wayside, Kansas, is the location that inspired book that developed into the TV series 'Little House on the Prairie'. Dyserville, Iowa, has attracted tourists who have seen 'field of Dreams'.

A new system to elect mayors directly has improved the municipal government of Naples and other cities in the south of Italy, but inefficient bureaucracy, organized crime and other problems persist. The tourist trade is one hope for the future.
