World Bank chief backs Putin Moves
Article Abstract:
Though Western leaders are criticising President Vladimir Putin for his tightening of government control over the Russian media and economy, World Bank President James Wolfenshohn has spoken out in support of the President's policies. While some analysts can sympathize with the international banker's endorsement as a vote of confidence for a country that is reeling from the most recent in a series of deadly terrorist attacks, others believe that Putin is merely taking this time of national distress as an opportunity to consolidate his authority.
