Worthless target: chip trade
Article Abstract:
The US semiconductor chip industry will meet with Japanese chip makers to complain that Japan's agreement to further open the market to the US is not being honored. Japan agreed last year to a goal of 20% US market penetration, but it cannot force businesses to buy US chips. More US-Japanese joint ventures could ultimately resolve many of the problems.

A poor match in Tokyo
Article Abstract:
Pres Bush's recent trip to Japan to reduce the US trade deficit was supposed to please voters concerned about the economy. Japanese concessions may well have little effect on the balance of trade. The trip could backfire on the president as its results have been roundly criticized.
