Yang Shangkun
Article Abstract:
Yang Shangkun joined the Chinese Communist Party during the 1920s, and joined the Long March during the 1930s. He was later accused of counter-revolution, spending 12 years in prison. Yang was an ally of Deng Xiaoping, and was the Central Military Commission's secretary general, turning the military into a fighting body rather than a political force. Yang favored using force against student protesters in Tiananmen Square in 1989. Yang sought a simple burial, but this request was ignored.

Saddam's sleep of the unjust
Article Abstract:
Iranian opposition groups see the government as less secure than it appears, while the US plans to offer funds for groups seeking to bring down President Saddam Hussein. A spokesman from the Iraqi National Congress (INC) is seeking protection for a base in Iraq from which to operate. Divisions between Kurdish factions caused problems with a previous attempt by the opposition at operating in Iraq. The INC does not have strong support from the Kurds, which weakens its effectiveness.
