Aircraft carriers cut 25 percent QDR target weapons programmes; FCS, JSF likely hit

The senior military officers preparing for the year 2005 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) say that modernization of aging weapons is likely to take a big hit. The navy leaders expect to receive $1.3 billion in supplemental appropriations for fiscal 2005 and they also feel that by adopting new operating concepts such as permanently stationing ships near war zones and swapping crews at sea, they can meet performance goals with far fewer assets.

The US military analysts are unhappy with the Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld's force transformation efforts that will leave the armed forces ill-equipped in future. The equipment used in the war has aged very fast due to the stresses of the war and the environment and no funds are deployed for their transformation.
