Calreticulin exposure increases cancer immunogenicity
Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates that anthracyclines cause tumor cells to expose on their surface a specific protein marker, calreticulin, which tags them for removal by the immune system. When calreticulin is exposed on the cell surface it serves as an 'eat me' signal that allows a dying cell to be recognized, ingested and processed by specialized phagocytic cells known as dendritic cells which educate other immune cells to recognize and respond to the material they have ingested.

Immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer: Science driving clinical progress
Article Abstract:
The identification of key signaling pathways involved in immune-system regulation, along with the development of early pancreatic tumors in mouse models provided new opportunities for pancreatic cancer treatment and prevention. Immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer is one approach that is at a crucial crossroads, as therapeutics that are designed to target pancreatic-cancer-associated antigens and regulatory signaling molecules are entering clinical trails.

Immunotherapy and chemotherapy: A practical partnership
Article Abstract:
The way, in which the recent data have altered the way people understand how dying tumor cells, particularly those killed by chemotherapy, engage with antitumor immune responses, is discussed. The data have significant implications for the development of new protocols combining chemotherapy with immunotherapy, indicating an exciting potential for the therapeutic synergy with general applicability to many cancer types.
