Castings reported a rise in profit of 5 million pounds sterling to 9.4 million pounds from 1993 to 1995, and has continued to make progress in 1st half 1996 to 1997. Automobile supplies account for 70% of turnover with between 25% and 30% exported. The company is continuing its program of capital investment and is building a new foundry plant for William Lee. There is also commitment of 1.5 million pounds at CNC Speedwell. Castings' profit is forecast at 10.5 million pounds for 1996 to 1997 by Bell Lawrie.

Automotive Precision: painful transition

Automotive Precision Holdings has seen a drop in its share price of 60% in under 12 months and is carrying out restructuring in 1997 which will affect results. The company has been hit by a rise in the value of pound sterling, a drop in North American demand and a loss of European business. One European customer has moved to eastern Europe where it is likely to buy components. The company's profit is forecast at 3.8 million pounds sterling for 1997 and 4.1 million for 1998 by Beeson Gregory.
