Chemicke Zavody Sokolov sees big loss

Chemicke zavody Sokolov (CHZS) (Sokolov, Czech Republic), chemical firm, saw a loss of CEK 345 mil in 2000. The loss is CEK 60 mil higher compared to 1999. Reasons for the loss were the restructuring of CHZS's payables and preparation for the restructuring of the firm's production base. The firm wants to sell all the production sectors that are not strategical for its further development and wants to fully focus on acrylate chemical production. The company also wants to extend its acrylic acid production by 10,000 t to 55,000 t per year. The investment costs on the extension of the production should be USD 20 mil. CHZS saw proceeds of CEK 2.632 bil in 2000, nearly 6% more compared to 1999. The firm has 780 employees. Its parent company is Eastman Chemical (US).

Kabelovna Decin lowers its profit

Kabelovna Decin-Podmokly (Decin, Czech Republic), cable manufacturer, saw a net profit of CEK 120.6 mil in 2000, according to audited results. The sum was nearly CEK 27.5 mil lower compared to 1999. The firm's proceeds decreased by CEK 159 mil to CEK 1.3 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. Kabelovna, which manufactures cable accessories, telecommunication and fail-safe cables, invested more than CEK 67 mil in 2000. The firm has had a 67.4% majority stake held by the venture and capital fund Bancroft Czech Republic (US) since 2000.
