Beyond the Berlin wall
Article Abstract:
Central and eastern European funds have not performed well, and the problem could lie in investment opportunities in the region rather than in the fund managers. Funds were launched at the peak of a cycle and have since been affected by a drop in investment after interest rates rose and US funds returned to the US. The economies appear to have good potential for growth but pessimists argue that damage to these economies will take a long time to remedy.
