Computer security in academia -- a potential roadblock to distributed annotation of the human genome
Article Abstract:
Security considerations adversely affect science and they increase the costs of using interoperating computers, diverting scarce resources from other activities. Security considerations make building intricate systems for interoperation between databases all the more difficult, as researchers have to continually check their interfaces for holes that would allow intruders in.
