Either/or selection markers for plant transformation
Article Abstract:
A new marker system based on the metabolism of D-amino acids is developed, which allows positive as well as negative selection, thus widening the choice of markers available for creating transgenic plants. This system can help in the examination of biosafety aspects and may be responsible for starting trials in different transformation systems, which can be used in combination with various regulatory elements

The fate of transgenes in the human gut
Article Abstract:
Microbes found in the small bowel of people with ileostomies that is, resection of the terminal ileum and diversion of digesta to a colostomy bag shows the capability of acquiring and harboring DNA sequences from genetically modified (GM) plants. A possible route for transfer of DNA from plant cells in the human diet to bacteria is discussed.

Monitoring and modeling horizontal gene transfer
Article Abstract:
The monitoring and modeling horizontal gene transfer is detailed. The monitoring efforts have failed to identify horizontal gene transfer events occurring from transgenic plants into bacterial communities in soil or intestinal environments.
