Depositary receipts gain ground in Asia
Article Abstract:
Depositary receipts are gaining ground in the Asian capital markets, but many Asian corporations still are unfamiliar with American Depositary Receipts (ADR) and Global Depositary Receipts (GDR). The use of ADRs and GDRs by Asian corporate issuers has increased since 1994, and there have been over 40 GDRs issued in Asia since that year. Investors like ADRs and GDRs as they allow them to buy equity positions in Asian corporations and to skirt foreign ownership restrictions.
