The Web site of the Florida commercial real estate firm Colliers Arnold is starting to pay off. CEO and Chmn. Lee Arnold explains that the original goal of the site was simply to improve its relationships with current clients but the site nevertheless started to generate unexpected leads for the company. In fact, a deal with a major aerospace and defense organization via the site resulted in significant earnings that surpassed the whole cost of setting the site. The success of Colliers Arnold is unanticipated because the real estate industry is not known for its Web operations.

Healthcare giant uses Web to screen new suppliers

The hospital giant Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. does not use its World Wide Web site to market itself to many companies that want to do business with it. Instead, it uses the site to screen potential medical suppliers. Vendors are required to fill up an online profile questionnaire to prove that they have something unique to offer to the company. Columbia/HCA then uses their responses to select the most appropriate vendor.
