Granada
Article Abstract:
Granada is a media and catering company that has tended to be ignored by investors in 1999, but this is starting to change. The company's media activities look attractive, Granada holds a stake of 18% in Scottish Media Group, a stake of 9.9% in Liverpool FC, and ITV licenses. There are rumors that Granada could bid for Border Television or Scottish Media. The hospitality division has achieved a rise in operating profit of 10% for 1999, and prospects appear encouraging for 2000.

Article Abstract:
Granada has become an investment trust and is involved in hotels, TV broadcasting, restaurants and rentals. The group's long term organic growth is not much more than growth in gross domestic product which could create problems when the business cycle undergoes a downturn. There is little logic in keeping such a diverse range of businesses together, and Granada's diversity hampers valuations. Value creation could be achieved through demerger but this is not likely to occur.
