Heirloom apparent
Article Abstract:
A brief account deals with the modern adaptation of tansu or mobile storage chests used in traditional Japanese homes, by recycling their broken limbs or creating new contemporary gear out of them. This restoration work was started by Isao Okada of Japan, whose work has brought the disappearing heirlooms back to life, and by putting them into new use he has stopped the practice of modern Japanese families discarding these heavy traditional tansu.

The artful remnant
Article Abstract:
A brief account offers insight into 'boro', which is a Japanese term meaning 'ragged' and refers to the recycled cotton textiles belonging to the pastoral Japanese post-war period. The beauty and attraction of the textiles' tattered imperfection and homespun simplicity have worked their way through modern Japanese design for the international market and combined the imagination of the East and West.
