FCA Bill Broadhurst embarks on perhaps the greatest challenge of his career as he assumes the position of Chancellor for Temporal Affairs of the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto. As the first layman to be tasked with such responsibility, Broadhurst has an estimated 1.5 million parishioners and 215 churches under his authority. He will be supervising the archdiocese's finances, including the funding for new church construction and accounting for the collection money.

Opportunity knocks

Employment opportunities are growing for female chartered accountants (CA) in Canada. Royal Mutual Funds VP Brenda Vince, for instance, says that the demand for women CAs has increased because of their analytical, communication and project management skills. A CA designation also open doors for women in male-dominated industries while many women CAs are finding employment in smaller, nontraditional companies.
