Master classes
Article Abstract:
MBA degrees are not always a guarantee to a better job position. In fact, only a few top managers have MBAs.People planning to take MBA courses have to consider several factors before enrolling. Some employers are not impressed with all of the 92 institutions that provide MBA programs. Moreover, some courses are perceived unfavorably by some sectors. Distance-learning programs are gaining popularity because these do not pose a risk to current jobs of interested parties but instead help advance students' careers. The Assn of MBA conducted research on the subject ofhigher education. Of the 2,200 MBA graduates surveyed, the highest paid are accountant-MBAs. However, the remunerative value of MBA has considerably decreased during the 1980s. Nevertheless, the study also shows that benefits other than direct and financial rewards can be had from MBA education.

Tripwires on the road to recovery
Article Abstract:
Experts predict that renewed economic growth in 1993 will bring increased level of business failures. Certain hindrances are expected to further exacerbate the situation. Many companies will have to address the difficulty of securing finance as the money vaults of banks run dry. Banks will be more careful and selective in lending, preferring to transact exclusively with companies possessing sound strategies, good financial controls and enhanced marketing. Moreover, the Bankruptcy Assn believes that the wrongful trading provisions of the InsolvencyAct of 1986 will facilitate the acceleration of insolvencies in 1993. Most experts agree that even businesses with favorable long-term potentials may undergo insolvency. Suggestions from five business consultants on how to survive economic recovery are included.

Well-prepared presidents
Article Abstract:
The UK appears to be well-prepared to assume the European Community presidency in Jul 1, 1992. Five months before taking over from the Portuguese, the UK had already made public its agenda and its EC presidency logo. The UK government is convinced that its term as president will be crucial to the shaping of the EC's role and remit. The British presidency's two main objectives are the completion of the single market program by the end of 1992 and the expansion of the EC's membership. Other issues that are expected to receive attention under the UK's leadership are the establishment of European relations outside of the EC, the ratification of the Maastricht Treaty, and the determination of the EC's financial structure.
