NCH issues report on couponing

As many as 248 billion manufacturer coupons were distributed in 2000, 3% lower than in the previous year, according to NCH's annual study of couponing trends. The study said 4.5 billion coupons were redeemed by American consumers in 2000, resulting in savings of $3.6 billion for the year. The redemption volume was 4.4% lower than in 1999 but the value redeemed was almost the same for both years. Disposable diapers registered the highest growth rate in coupon distribution followed by paper products and pet food, respectively.

ACNielsen tracks changes in purchases

The Fourth Annual ACNielsen Consumer and Market Trends Report from ACNielsen reveals that drug store and mass channels have sustained huge sales growth in food items by offering their customers a wide range of products. For instance, deli sales by drug store chains for the 52 weeks ending Apr 15, 2000 was 68% higher than during the previous period while sales of dairy products rose by 39%. On the other hand, mass merchandisers increased deli and dairy products sales by 142% and 34%, respectively.

Report issued for kids' apparel purchases

Almost nine out of 10 mothers with children six to 10 years old said that the child influences what clothing is bought for them, as shown by a study conducted by The NPD Group. The same study reveals that 71% of mothers said that their child's wishes are very influential in the purchasing decision. Even the youngest child recognizes and responds to brands and licenses, according to NPD Childrenswear Account Executive Robyn Teplansky.
