Naval aircraft and weapon developments
Article Abstract:
A series of military operations falling short of war that were launched by the administration of Pres Bill Clinton have strained US military forces to the limit, worn out military hardware more rapidly than expected and considerably reduced weapons inventories. The Kosovo campaign in 1999 yielded valuable lessons on troop deployement and weapon systems technology and operational employment, while increasing the urgency of replacement programs. However, the FY 2001 budget has done little to address the financial requirements of this accelerated need that are probably closer to the $100-billion level.

High-altitude UAV's should be naval players
Article Abstract:
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) high altitude theater reconnaisance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) program has resulted in aircraft that are already in the flight testing phase. DARPA's UAVs represent a quantum leap in reconnaisance, which has proven to be a pivotal factor in warfare success throughout history. With these UAV's only two years away from an operating capability, the time is ripe for considering the ways by which these vehicles can be used in littoral and expeditionary warfare.

The nation needs the MV-22
Article Abstract:
The wisdom of procuring the MV-22 Osprey aircraft for the US joint forces is being debated due to the fatal crash that claimed the livves of 19 Marines. However, it should be noted that the aircraft represents the effort to provide the Marines with the very best that technology canprovide. Its speed, endurance, survivability and lift capacity is far superior than the aircraft that it is replacing. Its procurement will ensure that the Marines will be ready for the 21st century.
