Ibis Therapeutics, Carlsbad, Calif., is being awarded a $6,601,000 grant to develop a combination of biological and computational technologies for the synthesis of antimicrobial and antiviral compounds capable of neutralizing biological warfare pathogens. Work will be performed in Carlsbad, Calif., and is expected to be completed by January 2002. Contract funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This grant was competitively procured through a broad agency announcement with 60 proposals solicited and six offers received. The Space & Naval Warfare Systems Command's Systems Center, Charleston, S.C., is the grant awarding activity (N65236-99-1-5419).

Newport News Shipbuilding, Newport News, Va., is being awarded a $46,868,246 cost-plus-incentive-fee contract for the completion of design and construction of the submarine large scale vehicle CUTTHROAT (LSV 2). Work will be performed in Newport News, Va. (40%); Groton, Conn. (35%), and at numerous undetermined sites throughout the United States (25%), and is expected to be completed by May 2001. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured.
