New Zealand: slowing down
Article Abstract:
The New Zealand economy is showing a drop in authorisations for new dwellings and a slowdown in car registrations, though credit demand and retail spending are rising in mid 1995. Interest rates may have peaked but concern over inflation is likely to mean that rates will not be brought down rapidly. Rises in food prices are above predictions, and the central bank aims to keep the New Zealand dollar strong in order to prevent inflation from being imported.
