Participant observation and the pursuit of truth: methodological and ethical considerations
Article Abstract:
The methodological and moral issues concerning empirical data generated from participant observation methods are analyzed to determine how accuracy and reliability of results can be improved. Participant observation accounts for the activity taking place plus systematic and random interference which would vary depending on whether observation is covert or overt. As social scientists have previosly indicated, observation affects the activity, thus covert operations may yield the more accurate results. Covert operations can be used together with video recording devices to record the process to enhance the accuracy of observation processes.

The 1992 Market Research Society membership survey
Article Abstract:
The membership profile of the Market Research Society (MRS) in terms of salary, status and industry sector was examined by conducting comparative surveys in 1982, 1983 and Jan 1992. The 1992 survey indicated the same trends established by the previous surveys. MRS membership is largely supplier-based, women dominate men in the membership, although men appear to have higher academic qualifications than women members. Furthermore, the survey indicated that women earn less than men. Members also gave the MRS high ratings in terms of achievements but not in activities and interaction with other members.

Analysis and interpretation of qualitative findings: report of the MRS Qualitative Interest Group
Article Abstract:
The characteristics and processes of qualititative research were examined through in-depth interviews with qualitiative researchers. The study indicated that analysis is an integral part of qualitative research. Hence, analysis should be treated as professionally as the rest of the study. Sound analysis entails recording all interviews, reviewing and re-evaluating the materials and taking time to interpret observations. Qualititative researchers should refrain from subcontracting the analysis stage to a third party.
