Key senator says Navy fleet can't be allowed to shrink further
Article Abstract:
Senator Jim Talent, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee seapower subcommittee, has stated that the Navy fleet cannot be allowed to reduce further as it could affect the ability to prosecute wars. He has welcomed the plan by Adm. Michael Mullen, chief of naval operations, to increase fleet size to 313 vessels, but is apprehensive about the feasibility and the risks associated with the plan.

Navy may lose as services compete for funds: Analysts
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Navy must sharply define what it must procure to meet yet-unknown challenges in battles, and use that clear vision to seek congressional funding amidst budgetary competition among other armed services.
