Phytodetoxification of hazardous organomercurials by genetically engineered plants
Article Abstract:
Methylmercury is a very toxic organic derivative present worldwide in polluted wetlands and coastal sediments. An organic mercury detoxification system was developed using in situ a model plant system transformed with bacterial genes (merA for mercutic reductase and merB for organomercurial lyase).
