The proposals involves a mix of residential, office and retail development and as much as 3 million sq ft could be available. The Passenger Transport Executive and Central Manchester Development Corp have set out a 15 year plan which includes a public park. Building a future
Article Abstract:
The center of Manchester, England, was destroyed by a terrorist bomb in 1996, and is being redeveloped. Demolition of Shambles Square, a 1970s complex, has been slow because of the large number of tenants involved, and complusory purchase orders have been used. It will be replaced by New Cathedral Street, a boulevard lined with trees. The Arndale Center is being improved, and a leisure scheme called the Printworks is being set up and will include motion picture theaters and restaurants, as well as shops.
