Plugging into the power game
Article Abstract:
Playing a 'hands-off' role as Scottish Power PLC's part-time chairman is a new experience for chartered accountant Murray Stuart. His previous jobs demanded full involvement in business operations. At various times, Stuart served as finance director at Hepworth PLC, ICL, and Metal Box PLC; as chairman of Caradon PLC; and as head of the efforts to restore the troubled commodities and finance firm Beresford PLC. Although Stuart only works part-time at Scottish Power, his involvement with other organizations keeps him busy. Currently, Stuart is chairman of both Hill Samuel Company Ltd and the Audit Commission in England and Wales. He believes that having many interests is good for him as a part-time chairman because it prevents him from constantly looking over the shoulder of Scottish Power's CEO.
