RNA interference below the immune radar
Article Abstract:
Two new studies have helped in describing the way in which small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) can escape detection by cytoplasmic sensors of viral RNAs. The findings help in facilitating the design of safer methods to therapeutic RNAi and the asymmetric siRNAs with 3' deoxynucleotide modifications on the blunt end allows the design of long siRNA duplexes that have minimal effects on the immune system.

Fluorescent proteins with ties that bind
Article Abstract:
A powerful new hybrid reagent, fluorescent proteins that sport the complementarity-determining regions (CDRs) is analyzed. An important technology for biomedical science is harnessing the immune system's ability to generate high-affinity binding pockets arising from the detailed crevices, surfaces and pockets formed by the apposition of six CDRs.

An engineered multidomain bacterial peptide as a model for targeted antibiotics against specific bacteria
Article Abstract:
A pheromone fused to colocin Ia is engineered to target the channel-forming domain of colicin Ia to bacterial membranes. These type of chimeric peptides may be of value as antibiotics against specific bacterial infections.
