Scottish Television (STV) saw a rise in profit for 1st half 1996 with both broadcasting and production of TV programs contributing to this improvement. Sky Scottish is a JV between STV and British Sky Broadcasting and involves a new channel to be broadcast from the start of Nov 1996, starting out with two hours daily. The new channel aims to reach Scottish people living outside Scotland in other parts of the UK, in addition to Scotland. The company could achieve a profit of 27 million pounds sterling for 1996.

UK television broadcaster ITV faces many challenges, and its future outlook looks unclear. ITV has seen its audience share fall, and in the long-term faces strong competition from multi-channel operators such as BSkyB and NTL. However, ITV is still the key to reaching a mass TV audience in the UK.
