SkyTeam should help CSA fly higher

Ceske aerolinie (CSA) (Prague, Czech Republic), Czech Airlines, expects the volume of its passenger transport to increase by 16-17% in 2001 compared to 2.461 persons in 2000. The firm was fully included in the global alliance SkyTeam, which also associates the founder members Air France (France), Delta Air Lines (US), Korean Air (South Korea) and Aero Mexico (Mexico), with a new flight schedule on 25 Mar 2001. CSA increased the utilization of its seat capacity to 70.4% in 2000 compared to 65.8% in 1999. The European average was about 73% in 2000. According to preliminary results, the company saw a net profit of CEK 560 mil in 2000 compared to CEK 37 mil in 1999. CSA completed the modernization of its fleet in 2000. It excluded the last Russian aeroplanes TU-154 and replaced them with the aeroplanes Boeing 737. CSA will take over another two aeroplanes of the type at the end of Mar 2001 and the beginning of Apr 2001. Then, CSA's fleet will include 27 aeroplanes.

The number of CSA's passegers grows one-fifth

Ceske aerolinie (CSA) (Prague, Czech Republic), Czech Airlines, expects a profit of CEK 340 mil in 2001 compared to CEK 560 mil in 2000. The firm generated a loss of nearly CEK 526 mil for 1Q 2001 compared to a loss of nearly CEK 300 mil for 1Q 2000. At the beginning of each year the firm sees losses regularly consequent on the low season. Besides, CSA has purchased and has commissioned two new aeroplanes. Currently, the firm has 19 aeroplanes of the type Boeing 737, nine turbo-prop aeroplanes ATR and two aeroplanes Airbus A 310. In 2002, the firm should enlarge its fleet by a third Airbus and two Boeings. In 2003 it plans to purchase the first small jet aeroplanes intended for regional transport. CSA is a part of the global alliance SkyTeam and offers connection to 61 destinations in 38 countries of the world.

The US firm Delta wants to buy a stake in Ceske Aerolinie

Ceske aerolinie (CSA) (Prague, Czech Republic), Czech Airlines, will be privatized at the end of 2002 at the earliest. Delta Air Lines (US), one of the main members of the air alliance SkyTeam, wants to acquire a stake in CSA. CSA entered the alliance in Mar 2001. Partners from the alliance Air France and Delta together will be allowed to buy a 15% stake from a 90% stake in CSA, according to a decision of the Czech government. The remaining stake should be sold by the state at international stock exchanges. Delta wants to use CSA's lines for expansion to central and eastern Europe.
