When internet business was at its peak in the late 1990s and early 2000, Cisco Systems became the most valuable company in the world, with a market capitalisation of $US531 billion. Since internet stocks took a dive on the Nasdaq in late 2000, Cisco's value has dropped to $US100 billion, it has failed to meet its estimates, and it has had to lay off staff.
