Status and prospects of China's space programme
Article Abstract:
China is able to make only limited investment in space technology, but has derived considerable benefits from focusing its space programme on applied satellites, intensive ground testing and the coordination of production, development and research. It has successfully developed and launched a number of satellites, and these have played a key role in boosting the country's economy by assisting, for example, in mineral and geological prospecting. China will be in a position to keep several applied satellites in orbit by the early years of the 21st century.
