Superhighway or superhype?
Article Abstract:
The information superhighway has been the subject of media, industry and political hype. However, the infrastructure that will support this network has not yet been designed, with its eventual implementation looking more difficult than ever. As a result of this uncertainty over delivery structures, telecommunication, cable and computer companies are busily forming co-ventures and strategic alliances in the hope of eventually becoming developers and providers of the required infrastructure. Nevertheless, the supposed convergence of computing, electronics, media and telecommunications that will become the framework of the superhighway is not expected to happen soon, despite partnering among the different sectors. While talks have always focused on building the superhighway, it should be noted that the superhighway will actually belong to those entities that will provide contents in the system and not the structure.

Out with the dinosaurs
Article Abstract:
Suppliers of accounting software need to keep up with innovations in information technology. Many vendors appear oblivious to the rapid pace of technological innovation in other sectors of the software market, continuing to churn out products that are a bit dated. Most accounting products in the market have only been modified and modernized to make them look like they are on the cutting edge of technology, but they do not really take full advantage of the latest technologies. For instance, despite the expected widespread shift to client/server in the near future, only a handful of accounting software developers are introducing products that anticipate this development. To be able to meet the needs of tomorrow businesses, accounting software vendors must keep abreast of technological innovations.
