Surface electromyography as a tool to study the head rest comfort in cars
Article Abstract:
A study shows that the use of head rest leads to decrease in surface electromyography (SEMG) activity among drivers and an increase in SEMG activity among the passengers. Two methods are used for objective evaluation of the comfort of head rests in cars using SEMG. The first method calculating the Amplitude Probability Density Function (APDF) shows no difference in SEMG activity with or without head rest. The time varying APDF method, which considers many APDFs to determine the rate of evolution of APDF parameters, reveals existence of difference due to seat back angle chosen by people.

Effects of posture, weight and frequency on trunk muscular activity and fatigue during repetitive lifting tasks
Article Abstract:
The effects of posture, weight and frequency on lifting were examined with electromyographic (EMG) signals. EMG signals from eight primary trunk muscles were analyzed during different lifting jobs. Median power frequency shift patterns were used to examine the tiredness of the muscles. The results showed that the muscles fatigued faster for the light load-high frequency than that for the heavy load-low frequency tasks. Results also showed that the direction and weight of the external load played a major part.

Surface electromyography analysis in long-term recordings: application to head rest comfort in cars
Article Abstract:
Research examining muscle fatigue is presented, with focus on using surface electromyographic signals in analyzing head rest and postural activity in long-term car driving. Methods of using characterization and segmentation procedures specific to the electromyographic technique are described.
