Listen to the volume
Article Abstract:
It is difficult to asses the risk that a crash could hit US equities. Negative skewness of returns is one way of assessing this probability, and past returns is a predictor. The sharp rise seen in 1997 could be a worrying sign. Trading volumes can also give clues, and they measure disagreements about markets. Trading volumes for US stocks have not been exceptionally high, which could be an encouraging sign. It is work taking note of trading volume changes, and this is more true where indexes have an important influence on markets.

The easy way to invest overseas
Article Abstract:
American depositary receipts (ADRs) are certificates that can be traded like ordinary stocks, and they are issued by banks with which companies have deposited stocks. ADRs are popular in the US with private and instututional investors, but they are less well known in Europe. They allow investors easier access to foreign stocks in terms of currency conversion and settlement rules, and they are easier to buy. A European version of ADRs may be launched following preparations by European Union leaders.
