The stock market route to Lloyd's: there is a clear need for the Lloyd's insurance market to settle its problems with aggrieved members. But investment trusts which specialise in the market are not without merit
Article Abstract:
Lloyd's of London has refuted reports that it is on the verge of collapse, but it needs to resolve its problems with aggrieved members. The first Lloyd's investment trusts are about to join the Association of Investment Trust Companies, gaining inclusion in the regular monthly information service, although this is seen as controversial by some investment trust brokers. Many investment trust brokers see Lloyd's trusts as insurance companies, due to the predominance of their insurance activities, although many insurance analysts have found difficulty in dealing with the Lloyd's trusts.

Promises, promises
Article Abstract:
There are a number of guaranteed products available for UK investors interested in personal equity plans (Peps). These products tend to involve lower gains or higher charges. These plans can be divided into two main types. One type provides capital protection, while the other type protects gains main at different stages of the investment. Some plans have limits on gains, while others do not have such limits. Guaranteed products can appeal to new investors and to investors seeking to protect part of their capital while taking more risks with the remainder.

New issues: should you get in or stay clear
Article Abstract:
Investment trusts revived in popularity in the UK in spring 1996. There have been a large number of successful new trusts which have traded at a premium after their launch. Some investors who were involved in earlier trusts, such as two European privatization trusts, are less keen on investment trusts. Investors should assess the chance of long-term growth of the net asset value of a trust. Not all trusts will trade at a premium, but this is not important over the short term.
