The web's the limit
Article Abstract:
Online services for private investors in the United Kingdom are less well developed than in the US. Infotrade and ESI offer online dealing. Charges tend not to vary much compared to conventional dealing, partly because brokers have to intervene in deals which are transacted in the same way as conventional deals. Charges have been more affected by competition in the US. The web can offer free information for investors and PCs have become important tools for investment decisions.

Article Abstract:
UK investors can deal in stocks using the internet. Online dealing accounts for some 40% of US trades, but this percentage is lower in the UK, though it is set to rise, with new entrants in the market. ESI was the first to enter the market, in 1995. Market Eye provides links to brokers. Charles Schwab Europe allows customers to place orders if they are in its Frequent Traders Club or have Market Master Accounts. Progress has not yet reached US evels where orders can be dealt with almost automatically.
