United Nations to help Cuba sell biotechnology
Article Abstract:
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) plans to contribute $300,000 to a Cuban government program over the next two years. The Cuban government program will then direct a total of $1.1 million towards improving the marketing infrastructure of the country's biotechnology centers. The UNDP's funding, its first for an international marketing initiative, will help pay for a high-speed computer network and access to marketing expertise to aid Cuba's biotechnology centers increase sales of their products. Until this initiative, the United Nation's has primarily funded the building of new facilities or the upgrading manufacturing technologies.

Merlin Ventures of London, England, is entering into a joint venture with the Rothschild Bioscience Unit to form Merlin Bioscience. Chris Evens, chair of Merlin Bioscience, says that investment of up to #12 million will be made in European companies involved in diagnostics, medical devices and drug discovery.
