Synthesis and characterization of the Mg2SixGe1-x solid solution
Article Abstract:
The Mg2SixGe(sub 1-x) solid prepared by heating stoichiometric amounts of elemental Mg, Si, and Ge in an argon temperature is reported. A combination of microprobe analysis with X-ray diffraction suggests that homogeneous alloys can be made by heating the elements to 1200 degree C, a temperature roughly 100 degree C in excess of the melting temperatures for pure MgSi and Mg2Ge. The 29Si NMR line width increases with local disorder anticipated for these materials.

Photoinduced fluorescence enhancement in CdSe/ZnS quantum dot submonolayers sandwiched between insulating layers: influence of dot proximity
Article Abstract:
Fluorescence enhancement (PFE) in a thin film of CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs) sandwiched between a glass substrate and a silicon oxide layer and the dependence on the degree of proximity between the QDs is reported. Based on the experimental results with respect to QD submonolayers and in accordance with the theoretical model, PFE is elucidated by the charging of trapped electrons.
