Synthesis of rutile (alpha-TiO2) nanocrystals with controlled size and shape by low-temperature hydrolysis: Effects of solvent composition
Article Abstract:
A new model is constructed to synthesize uniform rutile (alpha-TiO2) nanocrystals by the thermohydrolysis of titanium chloride in hydrochloric acid-alcohol aqueous solutions at 40-90 degree Celsius. The findings indicate that the nanocrystals size and shape are strongly related to the type and the concentration of alcohol used in the alcohol-water solvent, as well as the presence or absence of both cationic and anionic surfactants.

Self-assembly of two-and three-dimensional particle arrays by manipulating the hydrophobicity of silica nanospheres
Article Abstract:
A study to describe methods for modifying the surface hydrophobicity of SiO(sub 2) nanoparticles so that the modified SiO(sub 2) spheres could be transferred from aqueous phase to organic solvents to form 2D and 3D particle arrays was performed. The results reveal that the 2D monolayer and 3D multilayer SiO(sub 2) films showed photonic crystal properties that were detected by transmission measurement in the UV-visible region.

Fabrication of two- and three-dimensional silica nanocolloidal particle arrays
Article Abstract:
Monodispersed silica spheres with diameters of 100-500 nm are prepared by hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) in the presence of water and ammonia in ethanol medium. Silica colloidal sphere sizes were controlled by changing ammonium concentration at fixed TEOS and water concentrations.
