Accessing your assets
Article Abstract:
The web is changing the way companies create, manage, organize, store and preserve information. There is so much data in business in so many different media that the only tool able to manage it is the same tool that created most of it: the computer. Digital asset management works with one or more databases and applies rules of business and workflow productivity to huge amounts of data. Proxies and thumbnails make it easier to work with huge media files, and version control makes it possible to retain various iterations of a file along with information about who modified it. Multichannel publishing combines print with video, audio, CD-ROM and the web. It was used first by the graphic design and prepress industries, but companies not in the publishing industry can benefit from web-based asset management. Digital branding is a promise of trust a company makes to its customers via such traditional branding avenues as logos, ads, packaging and service, as well as via its electronic commerce operations. Digital asset management is important to electronic commerce's goal of combining product knowledge, customer information and business rules in a sales machine.

Preproduction habits of the rich and famous
Article Abstract:
Planning is essential for an effective multimedia production. The first step is to narrow down the range of choices and determine what the final production will entail. This means establishing goals, knowing the audience profile, setting out the targeted message and creating an overall theme. After making these decisions, the method of electronic delivery should be chosen. Although platform and delivery media are important criteria to consider, choosing the right software is the most difficult choice. Schedules are often demanding in multimedia projects and a schedule needs to be developed. Selecting designers, artists, and other professionals to help with the project is an important part of a professional presentation and a flow chart can be very useful in visualizing the overall project. Production planning must be interactive with budget constraints and balanced with other scheduling needs.

Producing for profit
Article Abstract:
Multimedia production managers need to be flexible and able to coordinate the chaotic production process. The first steps involve presenting clients with ideas that meet their needs and budget. Once hired, the production team needs to brainstorm with the client for a simple concept and theme, which is then expanded with storyboards and targeted towards a specific audience profile. The equipment and staff needed to accomplish the project can then be hired and the preproduction process of outlining the entire project begun. During production, media elements should be tested and revised to meet actual needs. Post-production and testing should focus on the product's functionality and include user feedback. The final delivery should include how updates and user communication will be handled.
